The existing chairs were becoming very shabby, and now did not conform to the stringent fire regulations for public venues. So with our limited income it was decided to approach a charity, who had been generous to us in the past, and see if they would look favorably on us again. We received a letter just before Christmas telling us our request had been successful which was welcome news, thank you to the board of Trustees of The Ronald Cruickshanks Foundation for your generous decision. After lots of research by our Caretaker Michael Chalk we went ahead and ordered a quantity of banquet style chairs, gold metal frames and burgundy seats with a trefoil design. The process was smooth and efficient and the delivery date advised. We were able to dispose of the old chairs very quickly and that same day took delivery of a pallet containing the new ones. Within the hour Nick and Zoe Varian and Melanie and Michael Chalk had removed all the packaging and carried them upstairs. They now line the walls of the reading room, they blend beautifully with the existing furnishings and have been already admired and enjoyed by our hirers.
